Calamity Jane will be the second collaboration between Bookham Light Operatic and the Nomads. Unusually

it started as a film musical in 1953 starring Doris Day and Howard Keel. It was adapted for the stage and was

first performed in St Louis in 1961. Although a comedy the musical has many tender moments and classic songs including ‘Deadwood Stage, Windy City, Black Hills of Dakota and Secret Love’.

The Wild West’s famous Calam dresses like a man, totes a gun and rides the Deadwood stage. Well-meaning but disaster-prone she tries to help the proprietor of the Golden Garter saloon out of a jam by promising to fetch

Adelaide Adams an adored music hall star from Chicago. Unknown to Calam she has brought an imposter.

Further disaster strikes when the person she is lovesick for Lt Danny Gilmartin falls in love with Katie the

young girl she has brought from Chicago. And where does Wild Bill Hickock fit into all this? Come and find out.
