“Fat Fingers” by Matthew Weaver - main stage event
Nomad member Matthew Weaver brings his sketch “Fat Fingers” to Surrey Showcase…
Fat Fingers
Matt Weaver and Mike Ayres will be presenting an original comedy sketch entitled ‘Fat Fingers’ written by Matt which is based around the famous dagger scene from Shakespeare’s Macbeth.
Matt is a current Nomad member and works as an actuary. He has varied experience of performing over many years within circus and as a jousting knight, though he is a relative latecomer to acting. Since joining Nomads two years ago, he has appeared in a number of productions including Twelfth Night and the farce Move Over Mrs Markham. Other writing credits to date have included school essays, actuarial reports, birthday cards (when he remembers) and apologetic emails (when he doesn’t).
Mike is the current Artistic Director at Nomads and a brilliantly talented actor, singer, director. Most recently, Mike was to be found sporting some rather rowdy little numbers in the December 2017 pantomime, Dick Whittington & His Cat.

Our second choir, this bunch from Guildford are sure to pull a crowd…
Guildford Jazz Choir
Phoebe Gaydon leads three choirs - Godalming Jazz Choir, Guildford Jazz Choir and most recently, Godalming Contemporary Youth Jazz Choir. Each are a small independent groups meeting once a week, sometimes accompanied by Alex Howe, resident pianist.
Jazz, pop, rock, musical theatre… “you name it we’ve got it” & all the arrangements are originally constructed by Phoebe & Alex. The choirs are often to be found at community events in the area including Guildford Fringe Festival and for cocktail hour at Komo, Guildford.

Malcolm Packer is a singer songwriter from Guildford and ‘Surrey Showcase’ is his debut as a solo artist. Normally the frontman for popular local covers band The Serial Thrillers, Malcolm will, for the first time, be performing a set of his own original songs. Published poet, Dónall Dempsey at Surrey Showcase
Our first spoken word performer has been announced…
Dónall Dempsey
Dónall Dempsey is originally from Kildare in Ireland, where he first began writing poetry and broadcast on local radio and on Irish television with John Cooper Clarke and Paul Durcan. He came to work in England in the 1980’s and has been living in Guildford, Surrey with his wife, Janice, since 2010.
He has read and performed his poems at festivals in France and India, as well as London, Guildford and elsewhere in Britain. He has published four books of his poems since 2010 and is an exciting, funny and moving performer, with an enthusiastic fan-base on the internet and at the monthly events that he and Janice host at The Keep, Guildford, as The 1000 Monkeys.

Guitarist, Alex Lawrence joins the Busker spot line up

Alex Lawrence
Alex is a self-taught musician who has been playing lead guitar in cover bands for over 16 years - various genres including soul, disco and rock. He has played at many weddings, parties and festivals (RIP Guilfest!) as well as corporate functions. While he doesn’t sing in his covers bands much he’ll be doing his own take on some acoustic covers as well as possibly one of his own songs.

Cristiano Munretta
Cristiano Munretta is a trained Bel canto singer of many genres who sings for a variety of events including: musical theatre, weddings, funerals, corporate events, nursing homes, day centres, charity events and more.
As well as singing, Cristi plays piano and drums, and has his own studio at home. He enjoys entertaining and is available for any kind of event, big or small, and recently appeared in “A Right Royal Romance“, brought to the Nomad Theatre stage in May 2018 by Bookham Light Operatic Society!

We’re excited to welcome Raza to the list of performers, as he won the London Society of Magicians Close Up competition trophy in November 2017. Raza performs regularly at weddings, corporate and social events as well as holding a restaurant residency.

The choir is one of two, forming Surrey Community Music Society and aim to “ignite your life with passion through the joy of music”!

We’re very pleased to announce our first young performer…
Riya Vyas
Riya Vyas is 12 and has always been a passionate performer. She especially enjoys singing and acting and has been lucky enough to sing on stage at Wembley Arena as well as making her professional west end debut in the award wining production of Ragtime at the Charing Cross Theatre. Riya studies both the ABRSM and Musical Theatre syllabus as well as attending theatre classes on the weekend. She is so excited to be performing at the Surrey Showcase!

We’re excited to welcome Sarah to the list of talented performers, having first experienced her awe-inspiring aerial hoop performance at a Nomads Club Night in December 2017. Sarah is multi-talented, having appeared in The Nomads previous productions of Shakespeare and pantomime among others - we’ve seen her act, sing and dance, now we’ll see her acrobatic skill suspended in the air… not to be missed!!

Dancer, Tilly Winford joins the list of talent
Here’s our first Surrey Showcase dancer…
Tilly Winford
Having recently graduated from Reading Studio studying UAL in Performing Arts, Tilly Winford has appeared in several Nomes Youth Theatre and Nomads shows.
Tilly lives in Shere, and has had Cerebral Palsy (CP) since birth… but she’s not letting that hold her back!
“I would like to become a professional actress and show the world that disability is no longer a justifiable barrier to inclusive casting in theatre and television. I have a huge passion for performing and feel that there’s not many actors out there with disabilities and I would like to be part of changing this fact. I am determined to show the world that a disability doesn’t change a person inside, and that that person is just as capable of thinking/doing the same things as anyone else. I want to inspire and encourage others with disabilities to get out there and live their lives!”

Barney Packer at Surrey Showcase
We’re pleased to announce another act for the Main Stage…
Barney Packer
After recording a handful of songs on his iPhone 5s, English multi-instrumentalist Barney Packer is now releasing them across three EPs; with all songs self-written, recorded, and performed.
The tracks have made people’s ears prick up, resulting in Barney being interviewed across regional and BBC radio stations, performing live sessions with his band for YouTube sessions, securing impressive press coverage in a number of publications and picking up radio play across the UK!

Goose & West Horsley WI confirmed as partners for Surrey Showcase
We’re pleased to announce that we’ll be providing savoury snacks which can be bought at the bar - all lovingly made by our super-local deli!
Goose is a charming little independent eatery that sits at the heart of the local community of Horsley. Situated in the quaint Bishopsmead Parade, they offer a unique destination for lunch or dinner with friends and family.
Alongside the savouries, we’re also going to have some yummy cakes and other sweet treats, provided by the lovely ladies of the West Horsley WI.
The West Horsley WI meets on the first Tuesday of every month at the West Horsley Village Hall, The Street, KT24 6DD.

First performer announced! Millie Jane Franks
With just 100 days till we open the doors, we’re celebrating by announcing our very first artist…
Millie Jane Franks
From an early age, Millie Jane Franks set out to become a performer and professional R’n’B/Soul Singer & Songwriter who backs herself with guitar or piano. Natural ability will only take a talented artist so far, but a strong will and determination has helped push this artist forward. Since graduating from the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey, Millie has continued to drive her development and success by performing all over Surrey/Sussex. She has appeared on local radio stations such as Surrey Hills Community Radio and Eagle 3 Radio.
We’ve heard a little bird also mention that you might be hearing her soon on Brooklands Radio!
Millie sprung to her career by appearing on the Nomad’s stage a fair few times (check out the reviews and see if you can spot her name and picture among the panto sections!) playing many big roles during her musical theatre days and also making her TV debut on ‘Dress to Impress’ on ITV. Since releasing her first single ‘Remember’ on iTunes and Spotify , Millie has had many radio plays and interviews on local radio stations, been scouted for many ‘exclusive’ gigs and also snagged a spot on the Top 5 ‘Surrey Songwriters’ Spotify chart reaching Number 2 for 2 weeks.
