Gold Star Agency is a new musical written by local composer John Bartlett. Set in the sixties, John thinks the colour and vibrancy of this period and the merry-go-round of employment agency gossip, in which he had first-hand experience, is just the tonic for these recessional times.
The musical is set in 1967. Business is rather humdrum for the Gold Star employment agency until one of its job hunters returns from a holiday in India. From then on, life in the agency is never the same again, as unpredictable events unfold against a background of sixties colour and fashion, Indian mysticism, Brazilian high jinks, intrigue, skulduggery and emotional entanglements. Those close to the agency become wrapped up in a strange power.
After hearing an extract last year, The Nomads decided to put on a studio production, using promising young artistic director, Nathan Farrell, his brother, Jordan, as choreographer and Richard Halsey-Watson as producer.
