Good Will Hunting (1997)
Some people can never believe in themselves, until someone believes in them.
Actors Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, childhood friends from Boston, hit upon an idea. Instead of waiting for roles to come to them, why not write a script that would take their careers stratospheric. Good Will Hunting was born…
Will Hunting is a janitor in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a tearaway who spends most of his time with friends like Chuckie taking heads of Guinness. Will Hunting is also a genius. Digesting books at lightning speed and solving complex maths problems in his spare time, he has nowhere to channel this brilliance. Figures emerge in his life in the form of an Institute professor (Stellan Skarsgard) and a psychologist (the late, great Robin Williams) who try to give him direction and teach him about the difference between knowledge and experience.
Nominated for best original screenplay at the Oscars, this film is stand out. A great supporting cast, including on-/off-screen love interest Minnie Driver and Casey Affleck, delivers some heart-felt performances, with some great dialogue and a fresh story that really stays with you. If you like the starlight from both the sky and the screen, Brown Hart Gardens is the place to be.
