After a rather hectic month the last few weeks have been a bit less busy for me, which has given me time to think about and plan some more goodies, more of which later. Unlike me, the cast and crew of Henry V have been very busy and at the time of writing they are about to embark on their week's run on the back of a very successful appearance at the Leatherhead Festival. Congratulations to you all for coming second overall and representing the Nomads so admirably.
I stated at the beginning of the year that alongside putting on productions I would also be concentrating on getting a variety of other ventures up and running. It is always difficult to know what people want so I am going to throw out some options. If any of them interest you in any way please let me know so we can get them off the ground.
There is still room in the year's schedule for some clubnights. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who would like to have a go at something new. There have been various ideas floated about; perhaps an evening of singing and dance, or a piece of work that focuses on exploiting our fabulous technical facilities, maybe an evening of improvisation loosely based on the TV programme Whose Line Is It Anyway?, rehearsed playreadings, or developing a piece of physical theatre.
Something else in the pipeline is the possibility of regular, monthly play reading sessions. The idea here is for a group of people to get together, over a pint in the bar, read through a script of choice and have a bit of a chat about it afterwards. It's a great way to extend your knowledge of plays and meet up with people at the same time.
Ever wanted to be truly Nomadic? Another idea which would be great to pull off is to get a group of actors and a director together to work on a piece of theatre that would be taken out to the public, to their living rooms to be precise! Yes that's right, to perform plays in rooms probably as small as a postage stamp that also include the audience and to provide a great evening's entertainment.
And if all of that sounds too energetic or involves too much commitment how about joining a group of people taking a trip to the National Theatre as part of their £10 a ticket season. There's a choice of three plays Cyrano de Bergerac on Tuesday 22"d June, Measure for Measure on Saturday 17th July and A Funny thing Happened on the way to The Forum on Saturday 16th September.
We may be able to get some funding to support a new initiative but we need to know there is an interest first. So if any of this grabs you or you have ideas of your own then talk to me! If there is enough interest in any of these things I will do everything I can to enable them to happen. Please let me know as soon as possible.
