Guildford Drama Festival

With Jane Martin's debut a few weeks ago with Secrets, the Nomads now have three writers in their ranks. The other two - Stuart Freeman and Peter Forbes - will have plays in the Festival.

Peter Forbes's comedy Last Chance will be performed on Thursday 26 June. The cast includes Lisa Arnold, Elaine Burns, Phill Griffith, Martin Lawrance, Bernadette O'Sullivan, Steve Whittock (back on stage after a long absence) and someone acting with us for the first time, Emily Ayres. The play, which was performed as a rehearsed reading at the theatre last year, has been revised and reduced in length to meet Festival rules, and will (with luck) be performed without scripts this time.

Stuart's play, September, originally entered for the 2002 Woking Drama Festival, will be performed on Friday 27 June, with a cast of Stuart himself, Antonia de Roche and Lauren Fantham. As the Nomads are allowed only one competitive entry September will be produced, directed and performed by an ad hoc group of Nomads under the name of The Buzz Theatre company. The play, which has been revised slightly from the original version with the inclusion of an additional scene, examines the randomness of life through the relationship of a brother and sister who have become distanced from each other. Set in New York, the protagonists acknowledge their need for each other and set about establishing a closeness that has previously eluded them. However, their hopes and futures are challenged by unforeseen, seemingly random, events. If you didn't catch it first time, or even if you did, don't miss the chance to support this original "Nomads" production.

The two plays will be performed in our own theatre at a Club Night on Thursday 19 June at 8 pm. Do come along and support your local authors! (And actors, of course). Contributions of £4 suggested.
Members might also like to know that Kate Raye, one of our Young Nomads, is performing with The Whips in The Happy Journey, their entry to the Festival, also on the Friday.

Tickets at £7 (£5.50 conc.) weekdays. £10 for the gala night on Saturday inc. glass of wine. Ring the Electric Theatre box office on 01483 444789.
