During the past few years, sponsorship has been an important part of our income. We have been lucky enough to interest many companies in our activities. On more than a dozen occasions since we have been in our present theatre, in association with our generous sponsors, we have received financial awards from Arts and Business. A&B's aim is to help increase support from the business community for the arts and they have supported a wide range of our activities, especially those we had not done before. Our awards have included companies of all sizes from international organisations like Cargill plc to Wildwood Project Management, run by our own hardworking newsletter editor, Lauren Fantham. Running our inclusive theatre activity costs a good deal of money and we could not do this without the wide financial support we have received from many sources; over £10,000 in 2006 alone. Both our Acting for All workshops in April and next week's PIAW8 have been enthusiastically supported by Wills & Smerdon and James Harper, a director of the company. In addition they print our newsletters for free. The picture shows James and Bill Pearson receiving the latest award from Colin Tweedy, the national director of A&B, at a recent Awards Presentation in the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill. We are very grateful for both Wills & Smerdon and A&B's support. Without such help we would not have been able to develop our activities for people with disabilities as extensively as we have over recent years. |

Next week the theatre will buzzing all day, all week. It is Play in a Week time, indeed it is the eighth annual production. The play, entitled Forest, has been written—almost. Anita Sullivan, the author, and Brandon, who is again directing the play, are just putting the finishing touches to it. Anita has done a great job including most of the ideas the whole group have suggested. This is the first time she has written for a group like this and says she is finding it challenging! She says the audience should be prepared to be to be surprised, amused, entertained - and just a little frightened.
The musical director is James Bristow, know to most us as Jay, who has just finished the same role for the Nomes production. Helen - Louise Lampard is again our choreographer, known for the excellent dance shows she has put on with the Lockwood Day Centre.
A cast of twenty and a group of musicians and singers have been chosen - from all the local organisations that have worked with us over recent years; plenty of other Nomads are going to be involved. The organisations involved include people from the Freewheelers Theatre Company, Seeability, The Grange Centre, the Discovery Group, Lockwood and Harbour Day Centres.
This production is being presented in memory of long time Nomad Debbie Danaher who was involved in many previous Plays in a Week and who was with Seeability for a number of years. Her partner of many years, Ray Wallis, is one of the sponsors of the show.
The show starts at 8pm on the Saturday, 22nd July and members of the box office team will be at the theatre on 01483 284747 between 10.45 am to 3.15 pm next Wednesday and Friday, as well as Saturday morning. Tickets are £5 |

Saturday 9th September 8pm
Don’t forget if you would like to take part in the September Club Night to give John Norris a ring to let him know—contact John on 01903 786247. The evening will be billed as “Quarters” and the idea is that all the pieces will be a quarter of an hour long—and it’s for everyone who would like to have a go at treading the boards, whether monologue, duologue, song and dance routine, stand up comedy, mime, juggling, fire eating (actually, probably not fire eating, I’m not sure that our insurance covers us for that!) But anything else will be most welcome for what will be a most enjoyable evening. John has organised a meeting for participants on Monday 17 July at 8pm in the theatre. Four of the “quarter” slots have been filled but there is room for 4 more—so if you want to have a go at acting, or directing someone else, do come along.

Yes, it is a shocking headline, isn’t it? But hopefully it got your attention.
Very sadly, the Young Nomads will not now be able to stage a show this summer, the first for as long as I have been a member (10 years) that they have not done so. The new play which was commissioned, ‘Adam and Eve ...and Eric’ was to have been the choice, with Rowan Bangs as director, and Lauren Fantham as production co-ordinator. It is unfortunate that the completion of the play has coincided with a time when the Young Nomads are no longer an active group—in fact they have not had a meeting for several months. This is a very worrying situation. We were unable to cast all the male characters in the play, and took the decision to put it on hold until next year. Possibly we should try to stage it at a time other than August, which admittedly is always a difficult time for the YNs, what with holidays, holiday jobs, parties to go to and so on. So instead Rowan offered to do another production, a variety evening along the lines of Stuff which the YNs staged in 2003. Sadly there was so little support for this idea that it is not a viable project.
The Nomads committee, and others, really do not want this to be the end of the road for the Young Nomads; so there will be a meeting on:
Sunday 23 July at 7pm in the theatre
Nick Johnston will be there to get your views on the future of the Young Nomads group and your ideas on productions next year.
PLEASE COME, IT’S IMPORTANT !! |

A group from Disability Initiative in Camberley recently came for a one day's workshop in the theatre. They were able to see round the theatre and hear how we operate. Richard Fentiman and Emma Starr gave them a warm up and improvisation session, finishing with them all doing their own short presentation. Wendy Storr, one of the organisers of the visit, has written since to say "There was a lot achieved in a short space of time and we feel you all did very well." Richard and Emma are now going over to their centre to do a further series of workshops. We would be happy to give any other similar organisations a ' taster day'. It is a good way to introduce people to drama and our theatre. |

There was no luncheon held at the theatre in June, due to our annual outing to Chichester. We had an excellent drive to the theatre and were blessed with superb weather, which enabled those who so desired to enjoy their picnics out of doors. I should like to take this opportunity, on behalf of the members of Prompt Corner and their friends, to thank Sylvia McKinley and Bill Pearson, for all their work in organising this enjoyable outing.
Our new season begins on Wednesday, 20th September, 2006. We shall be welcoming a return visit from Janet Hilderley. Her talk will be entitled Mrs. Disraeli versus Mrs. Gladstone. Janet last visited us in January, 2005 when she told us about the life of Yvonne Arnaud. In October, our own Helena Johnston will be telling us about her work as the Nomads’ Theatre Archivist. November brings us a welcome return of Susan Morris. Sue visited us in May 2005, when she presented a programme entitled ‘Character and Personality in Paintings’. Her new talk sound equally enticing. I shall give details in a future Newsletter.
Will all those who wish to attend the next meeting, please telephone me on 01483 283507 by Wednesday, 13th September, 2006. Our numbers are increasing and we are unable to seat more than thirty-eight members in comfort. Unfortunately, there are occasions when we have to have a waiting list but I shall do all I can to accommodate members who wish to come.
