As a luxury liner steams across the Atlantic Turai and Gai try frantically to finish their play in time for the New York opening. But the show depends on the music of a young composer. It seems his girlfriend (the leading lady) has an interest in the leading man, who isn't quite the man he used to be. Add lifeboat drills, a cognac-sipping steward, and other storms at sea for a 1930's style screwball farce.
Truly funny and wonderfully done, this play poses some interesting ideas about communication in a relationship. It also makes you look at trust and the role of friends in keeping two people together, while bringing up some ethical questions as well. All in all a wonderful play incorporating music by Andre Previn.
"Few modern playwrights serve a fizzier champagne of verbal wit..." New York Times. |
